EDG takes over Enterprise Freight to preserve local service levels and jobs

Basildon-based TPN Member and contract distribution specialist EDG Group is taking over the operation of neighbouring Enterprise Freight to preserve the continuity of service for customers. This makes EDG one of the largest palletised freight distribution companies in the region.

Enterprise Freight and Transport Services is a family-run specialist in haulage, pick and pack and international freight movements. Its owner and director Barry Copeland wished to retire and so, to ensure the future of his employees and continuity of service for his customers, he asked if EDG would be willing to take over the company assets and goodwill.

The move preserves 31 jobs in the region and adds £4m in turnover, 15 vehicles and seven trailers to EDG’s asset list. It also takes its pallet volumes to circa 1,500 a week.

EDG operations manager Jamie Cracknell says: “Although EDG is a much bigger company overall, Enterprise Freight is extremely well established in the palletised freight sector and so our TPN operation will expand considerably.”

He continues: “Collaboration and teamwork are a theme in TPN, and I think in some ways this is a classic example of collaborative problem-solving which serves and protects everyone’s interests.”
